I recently read a post that basically put mothers down for not covering up. At first, I took it as a tongue in cheek. Then as I re-read it, there were a lot of insults. I have witnessed many “size” mothers breastfeed without covering up. I have seen very little nipple. That doesn’t mean I haven’t seen a lot of cleavage! It is very possible to breastfeed in public discreetly without a cover.

Leave your house and you will find a Smorgasbord of women flaunting their breasts. I have even seen women flaunting butt cleavage. Of course, no one walks over and asks these women to cover up. Our society has this double standard going on. We don’t ask them to cover up because it is seen as desirable. The minute a mom puts a baby to her chest, it instantly becomes horrific.

I am actually a modest breastfeeder. I won’t breastfeed in public unless I have my nursing cover AKA Hooter Hider. I know many women have been shocked when they found this out. I am pro breastfeeding but that doesn’t mean I have anything to prove. I cover up because that is where my comfort zone is. It was a choice but a choice that I was actually criticized for making. I went on believing that those people will never be happy. I don’t look down on those women who choose to not cover up and would expect the same respect.

Our society has sexualized breasts and forgotten that they were created to nourish our children. The added sexuality is a bonus. My opinion is simple. Worry about your own choices instead of worrying about others. Unless a woman is sitting there with her boob hanging out than you most likely won’t see anymore boob than you would if you looked around you. I bet there is at least one other woman that you can find that is showing more skin than that mom feeding her child. The difference? That other woman would love your attention.

I still can’t believe this day is here. Myles’ First Birthday. We celebrated his birthday on Monday but it didn’t seem real until I was watching him sleep last night. He doesn’t look like a 1 year old. He still looks like my baby. Of course, he is not much bigger than most babies. I guess in a way, he will always be my baby.

So what can my 1 year old do? He can stand for a few seconds and has managed to accidentally take 2 steps. I say accidentally because he acted like he tripped and then fell down. He likes to dance. Even if it is more of a bouncing movement. He is the fastest crawler I have ever seen. So fast that I have considered seeking out some baby races. He is great with blowing kisses. In a house of girls, I’d be worried that he won’t ever get a word in. Of course, he doesn’t let that stop him from babbling our ear off. He is still an extremely happy baby even when he is sick. His favorite thing to do is be with his sisters. He is obsessed with the tv and watching it when his sisters have it on.

He is allergic to dairy so I had to find a birthday cake that is delicious and healthy for him. I chose to try an Apple Swirl Cake. It is was even a hit with the adults. I made another cake for everyone else. I even decorated it with fondant by myself! I used my cricut to create his banner which was super easy.

NINE days, count that, NINE days the day I am trying to forget. Myles is my sixth child, I should be used to this. Right? NO! I have never been in so much denial about an upcoming birthday. The girls were easy. I loved planning and celebrating their birthdays. I was ready for them. But this one has me waking up in a cold sweat. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that my last baby is turning a year old.

Does this mean I am regretting the vasectomy? Oh Heavens no! I don’t get itch for a new baby when I see a pregnant woman or a newborn baby. I will miss the belly because let’s face it, I was hot! I will definitely miss the killer boobs. I will miss those first moments when your heart drops at the first sight. I won’t miss the late night feedings. I definitely won’t miss the diapers! Even though, they are absolutely adorable! I am looking forward to spending more one on one time with my husband. It’s kind of hard to get out of the house when you have a little one attached at the boob every 2 hours.

All this doesn’t make this upcoming occasion any easier to swallow. I’m just not ready! I’m ready to throw myself in the closet with a box (or four) of girl scout cookies to wallow in self pity. Of course, I don’t because his birthday also means I have a yearly doctor appointment coming up. I refuse to step on the scale to find out that I’m heavier now than I was a year ago.

As I am writing this, I am holding this little man in my arms. He is sound asleep and has no clue that I’m fighting back the tears. I know once he wakes up, he will look at me with that million dollar smile. Then my heart will melt all over again. He may be completely different than his sisters in every way but that way. They all know how to make my heart grow ten times in a matter of minutes. Now it’s time to finish up his invitations and get them printed. I think I may need a trip to Dairy Queen by the end of the day.

In nine days, I won’t have a baby anymore.

I recently watched a news cast that showed how dirty shopping carts are. It was enough to make me slightly ill. Using an antibacterial wipe can significantly reduce the number of germs by 90-100%. That is great if you are just pushing the cart, however what happens if you want to put your child in the cart?

Tiny hands holding the germ infested cart just makes me cringe. Infantino’s Cloud Shopping cart cover helps your child stay comfortable and healthy during your shopping trip. It features a snazzy and stimulating design on easy to clean fabric. It has an adjustable safety belt that coordinates with the cover. It is reasonably priced at $29.99.

MY THOUGHTS

One of my must have features in a shopping cart cover is that it covers the whole cart. Infantino’s Cloud shopping cart cover stretches all over the cart to fit snugly over the entire seat. Now I don’t have to worry about the little ones chewing on the side of the cart. I also love that it has 2 toy loops. I can give him two different toys to keep him busy while we are out shopping. It would be nice to have a pocket on the top of the cover and in the back. I would be able to slip my keys and/or wallet in the back.

I did have a number fade slightly when I washed it but it doesn’t seem to have any effect on the overall usability. It is small enough that it fits in a small bag in my van. It also has velcro underneath to help keep it secure to the cart. It fits perfectly over a high chair without being too bulky.
