Real Boys Ride in Pink!

Real Boys Ride in Pink!

2 Comments 07 September 2010

I don’t understand how some parents can keep their babies in the infant carrier any longer than necessary! Myles is not even 13 lbs yet and I had to ditch the infant seat. I didn’t even wait until we could buy a new car seat! I decided since we have a perfectly good convertible seat from his sister, we’d just use it. Who cares if it’s pink and has flowers right? It does have blue too!

He doesn’t mind either! But now I’m on the lookout for a new convertible seat that fits the budget. So not an easy task!

Myles is 5 months old and still not ready for solids! When did your baby start solids?

3 Comments 29 August 2010

When we had Myles 4 month check up, I knew the food question would come into play.   Personally I have my own reasons for introducing solids when I do. It’s pretty simple. I  want my child to be ready. I also want my child to have a variety of  HEALTHY foods. The healthiest food I can offer right now is 100% breastmilk. At Myles 4 month check up, the pediatrician and I discussed introducing solids. He suggested waiting until at least 6 months. I told him that I don’t believe he’ll be ready by 6 months. He wholeheartedly agreed! He said we are definitely okay with delaying another month or two.

We usually delay solids until 6 months. We breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months. At that point, we look for the signs that baby is ready to start solids.

  • Sitting up without support.
  • Lost the tongue thrust.
  • Willing and able to chew.
  • Eagerness to try food.

Once we start to notice these signs, we start to try different foods. It is a milestone that is by far the messiest! That is one reason I am in no rush to start solids before the baby is ready. Now  a lot of people say that we can start solids at 4 months. Which seems funny to me! Myles is not even sitting up WITH support! He definitely has a hint tongue thrust and can’t chew. The only food he is eager to get close to is the breast.

I will probably start making solids and freezing them sometime in the next two months. I like to have a good variety on standby when we begin introducing solids. When I do start making solids, I am investing in a Beaba Babycook. After checking this must have baby item out at the EVO conference, I have put it on my list. I love preparing my own baby food. It is so much cheaper and better than store bought food. But that is another story!

Now the question of the day!

When did you introduce your own baby to solids?

Back to the cardiologist we go after getting Echo results

4 Comments 22 August 2010

It’s been a few days since we had the echo cardiogram done. I said the results on Twitter and Facebook but was honestly still wrapping my head around it. We noticed a heart murmur when we took Myles in for his 2 month appointment. The doctor reassured us that it was probably nothing. But because he was premature and there is a known family history of murmurs, they scheduled an echo. The echo came back showing a PFO, Patent Foramen Ovale. We made our appointment for the cardiologist. During that time we seen a neurologist for an unrelated issue. They mentioned that they were unable to hear a murmur at all. So I mentioned it at Myles next appointment. TA DA! They listened forever and never heard a murmur again! I requested that we cancel our appointment with the cardiologist and try another echo in our hospital. The pediatrician agreed that this was a reasonable request.

On Tuesday, I took Myles to the hospital. I was praying that he would sleep. The pediatrician had told me that if he wouldn’t go to sleep, they’d want to reschedule a time that they can sedate him. He said if this was the case, we’d wait until he was older. As much as I don’t want my infant son sedated, I wanted answers too. In my heart, I knew all was okay. I thought it was a great sign that no one had heard the murmur in 5 visits.

While I was sitting in the room trying to keep this little man content and still, I knew I was wrong. Myles got sugar water through the syringe while there. He did pretty well until it was time to roll him on his side. That’s when he started crying. So we stopped for about 10 minutes so I could soothe him to sleep. It worked! He finally fell asleep so we could finish the last part of the echo.

We got the results on Thursday. My fears were confirmed when the pediatrician told me that he still had the PFO. He said it is a small hole and isn’t urgent. But because of Myles size, he wants him seen by the cardiologist. So we made an appointment again for Primary Children’s Hospital. Of course, with this little boy, I can’t help but think positive! He is such a fighter and will grow to be strong like his daddy!

mOmma is the newest innovative collection of cups, plates and eating utensils. mOmma offers stylish feeding products for toddlers and infants. Keep their mealtimes exciting with products that have a spherical base. The base also keeps them upright to help keep them clean from germs. The mOmma’s products come in bright colors that stimulate infants and toddlers. The rocking motion and bright colors also keep them engaged during mealtime.

My favorite thing about mOmma is the fun and unique design. They are so neat and perfect for kids. The shape fits in Kambree’s hand just right. I don’t really care for the fork. It only has the one tong which makes it more like a spoon. I like that the utensils are the perfect length for the little ones. The sippy cups are a lot of fun! Even the straw is different. The handles make it easy to handle and they are the perfect size for their little hands. Photobucket

mOmma products are all BPA and phthalate-free. They are also dishwasher safe. The utensils have a protective cover that make it easy during travel or visits to Grandma’s. I like that when you start feeding the baby, you can add the cover to the handle which makes the handle longer and easier to handle.

I received mOmma products for review purposes. The opinions stated here are my own.
