A Very Merry Christmas Giveaway: Heart of Haiti

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. People are filled with hope and a drive to improve their lives. Despite devastating earthquakes and very limited options, the hope is still strong. Heart of Haiti is a “Trade, Not Aid” initiative launched by artist and social entrepreneur, Willa Shalit, The Clinton Bush HaitiFund and Macy’s.”Trade, Not Aid” simply means it provides artists with an opportunity to make a living for their families. The Heart of Haiti collection has led to the employment of 450 artists in Haiti providing financial benefits for an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 people in the country.

The Heart of Haiti Songbird Picture Frame is breathtakingly beautiful. The quality is strong and sturdy. It is a one of a kind piece of art that was handcrafted in Haiti. It measures 9″x11.5″ and holds a 4″x6″ photograph. We are taking family pictures next month. I plan on putting one into this frame because we are full of hope. This frame signifies hope to me because I know the heart behind it. When I first heard about the initiative, it seemed like an obvious concept. Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach the man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. It’s that simple. Most items in the collection are priced at $25-$60 which means they are affordable.

Macy’s sell and market the Heart of Haiti products for retail. The Heart of Haiti collection is available exclusively at 25 Macy’s stores around the country and on Macy’s.com. The collection features over 40 home decor items that include quilts, metalwork, ceramics, paintings and more. Every piece is made almost entirely from recycled and sustainable items like old cement bags, cardboard, oil drums and local gommier wood. The Heart of Haiti collection is a gift that gives back.
