Thanksgiving Turkey Crafts
One of my favorite parts about Thanksgiving is teaching my children about being thankful. I try to teach them throughout the year but it seems to be easier during this time of year. I think that is because everyone around us is talking about it. I recently started a devotional with my girls. It is The One Year Mother-Daughter Devo by Dannah Gresh. Part of one of our devotionals this week was creating a turkey. It was a great experience to work with my kids and have the discussions that we did.
We traced a large turkey and then I let the kids cut them out. They aren’t remarkable and breathtaking pieces of art. But every piece of them is a work of art created by each of my babies. I helped Sydnee and Kambree with the writing but everything was all them. They cut their feathers without any template. They chose the words for each feather. Every feather represents something else they are thankful for. They have been adding to it every day.
Each turkey is hanging on our hallway wall so that we can be reminded everyday what we are thankful for. So many people say that they aren’t crafty or they can’t make things look nice. When we were making those turkeys, I realized I wasn’t just crafting something. We were creating memories.
How do you teach your family about being thankful?
