41% children admit that their algebra work makes them more nervous than the intimidating task of asking someone out on a date! That’s a lot of kids that are frightened of algebra. Algebra can be fun like puzzles. They just need to have a positive attitude after being properly prepared. Do you know if your child is prepared for the next step in Algebra?

Algebra is an important subject because it is the foundation for higher-level math and science classes. Helping your child succeed early on in Algebra will ensure their success in those higher-level classes. Sylvan’s Fit 4 Algebra challenge tests your child’s abilities to discover what your child needs to be ready for Algebra.

Ashley is currently in the 7th grade and taking a pre-algebra class. She took the Fit 4 Algebra challenge last week to determine how ready she was for Algebra and what skills she could work on to make sure she is ready. The results are kind of confusing but it shows that she is moderately ready for Algebra. The skills she could work on are:

• Coordinate Graphing
• Geometry
• Integers

She should also work towards building skills in:

• Comparing and Converting
• Decimal Operations
• Fractions
• Ratios and Proportions

The one thing that I really love about the results page is that there are links to videos and problems that will help your child build these necessary skills. Print the results and let your child work on the skills before testing again. I am grateful for Sylvan’s efforts in helping our children be ready so they aren’t so afraid of math.
