DIY: Create your own fall wreath for less than $20

I am a Pinterest addict. Every time I am having a bad day, I head on over to Pinterest and start pinning. That was when my creative juices started flowing. I came across a wreath. I had to make my own! I went to Jo-Ann’s and started shopping. I knew what I was looking for so it wasn’t hard. The best part is they had a lot of decor on sale! 40% off actually!

I bought a 18 inch wreath that looks great for fall, some flowers and other little fall bundles, and then some fall ribbon. Everything was on sale except for the wreath. No worries! It was only $4 and I used a 40%  coupon! I even grabbed our initial “M” and a wooden word “welcome”. You can buy some fall signs they have but your cost will be a little more. I believe the total came up to about $16 for everything. When I got home I laid the newspaper out and let the girls start painting.

While they painted, I wrapped the large ribbon around the wreath. I had lots left so that it can hang from the ribbon too. Then I tacked the ribbon down with some hot glue in different spots to keep it from slipping.

While the paint dried, I started gluing down the flowers and other accents. I actually popped the flowers and leaves off the stems on some of the bundles to spread out the flowers!

I glued the Welcome on to the M first. Then glued them down to the wreath. I was very generous with the glue to guarantee it would stay and held it down a little tighter. I wanted to make sure that baby wasn’t moving! Now I can’t wait to hang this quick project up! Come on Fall!

I think the best part of this whole project was the excitement the girls got from helping.

  1. I love this! I am kicking and screaming about the end of summer, but this is something that can get me in an autumn mood. :) What kind of glue do you use?
    Thanks!
ps I just discovered pinterest too — so fun!
