Transitioning to the crib

I made the decision to move Myles to his crib. Not just his crib but his own room. We had moved his crib into our bedroom and attached it to our bed. He would start out the night laying in his crib but would end up curled up with me. Which was perfectly fine but I really want him sleeping through the night. He is almost 16 months and I am really wanting a full night’s sleep. I can’t do CIO (crying it out) so the first two days, I put him in his crib asleep. I was doing this at night and for naps. I know everyone says to put them in their crib while awake but I just didn’t want to start with crying.

Last night, I decided to try putting him down while he was awake. I nursed him for a bit. Right before he went to sleep, I brought him to his crib. At first he started to fuss then he was fine. I have my DLink Camera set up so I can watch him from the living room. He was just standing against the rail but not a peep until he would hear his sisters. Then he’d cry out before stopping again. He finally sat down and just sat there for a few minutes. Next thing I knew, he was passed out.

We made it without CIO! I was incredibly excited. He slept for almost 3 hours before waking up. I decided not to bring him into our bed at that point. So I sat in his rocking chair and rocked. We bounced and snuggled and nursed. He was not happy that I was not taking him to our bed. But he eventually started to drift off. I placed him back in his crib before he was asleep and then just rubbed his belly. He was out again!

At some point in the morning, he woke up and I brought him into our bed. One step at a time right? When did you transition your baby to the crib or bed?

  1. Oh goodness. Turtle hasn’t ever slept through the night either. I am working on getting her in her own bed.

  2. Sounds like you are doing a fantastic job with the transition. We never coslept with our boys, so they slept in their own beds from day one… actually a bassinet for the first month in our bedroom then into his crib in his own room. We always put them both down while they were awake from day one and never had a problem.
Wishing you lots more success and sleep filled nights! =)

  3. I don’t have the crib even set up yet and my little guy is 20 months…
I might steal your idea though, thanks!
