Mamavation Monday: Skinny does not equal healthy
It’s a common misconception. Yes, I am a healthy weight but I am far from as healthy as I should be. As a mom of many, I often reach for whatever is quick and convenient. I try to keep more fresh fruits and veggies instead of junk food around. That helps a lot. But it’s still not always possible. The junk food seems to worm it’s way in. Our biggest downfall? Processed foods!
I have eliminated most boxed meals from our house. The biggest culprit is probably frozen pizza. Even though we prefer to make our own when we have pizza, it’s all about convenience. I think the best ways to fix this is to cook the meat ahead of time. Then it wouldn’t be as bad. One of our biggest problems with buying fresh is the cost. When apples are on sale at 99 cents a pound, I stock up. I hate spending $2/lb for apples. Romaine lettuce is also pretty expensive as well. To help off set the cost of fruits and vegetables we are getting Bountiful Baskets. For $15, I got a lot of fruits and veggies. I think next time, I’m going to buy 2 baskets.
This week we got
- 2 bunches of Asparagus
- Pummelo
- apples
- oranges
- romaine lettuce
- tomatoes
- canteloupe
- strawberries
- bananas
- broccoli
- cauliflower
That’s a lot of food for $15! So that’s what I will be doing every 2 weeks when Bountiful Baskets come. This is one step to getting my family eating healthier.
I am also excited to announce that I have been doing the EA Active on my Playstation 3! I had to take a break on Friday due to major pain in my leg but will be back at it this week. I did try the 30 day shred with Jillian Michaels. Holy cow, I had to really push myself. Then I decided since my goal isn’t to lose weight, I am going to stick with the EA Active until I am done nursing. Once I am done nursing, I will try the 30 Day Shred and hope I don’t lose all the weight. What’s even funner is that I got my kids involved. They love to workout with me.
This week’s blogging carnival question is:
Question: What does “wellness” mean to you?
This question is pretty simple. There is a weight factor involved but I think it’s more global than just weight. Wellness is determined by health, weight, strength, and emotional health. You must tackle all of these things on your road to being healthy.
I would like to thank Earth Footwear for sponsoring Mamavation and this week’s blogging carnival!

I am with you with being at my ideal weight. I am in need of toning. EA Active is good for that. I am intrigued about bountiful baskets…Never heard of it but I want to know more. Living in MN, fresh fruit and veggies are expensive right now and not very good. I miss the summer and my fresh produce… I will have to see if there is an option for me around here. Have a great week!

I agree that skinny is usually associated with healthy. I am not either, but have no desire to just become skinny. I want to be healthy, or all the work just isn’t worth it to me.
I love the EASactive. Yes the Shred is a bit more intense, but the EASactive is such a great program. Glad you are enjoying it. I am hoping that since I am weaning my daughter right now I will have more weight loss soon.
I hope you have a great week!

Gena, you know I love you no matter what!!
We have done the same, by eliminating all box food from the house. We actually went through the pantry this week to make it official.
I can’t wait to see how you do on with the Shred. I’ve seen others have great results!
