It is hard to believe that 2 weeks ago, I was in the hospital giving birth to a beautiful little boy! When you are pregnant, the weeks drag on. The 2 weeks before I had him were the longest 2 weeks ever. They felt like an eternity. In the hospital, I was terrified of having a premature baby. The biggest fear I had and still do is that he is now a higher risk for SIDS. I also didn’t know what to expect when he came home. What if his respiratory rates were up? What about his temperature? What if he gets too hot or too cold? In the hospital I had a whole staff waiting to do what they needed to keep him healthy. Now it’s up to me. Do I have what it takes?

I took him to his 2 week appointment yesterday. He was 4 lbs 12 ozs! So 3 ozs from his birth weight. They would like him to his birth weight by Thursday. So we are going to start doing 1/2 oz of formula after nursing sessions to help boost the weight gain just enough. He was supposed to get circumcised but there was an error in the scheduling so they didn’t have the equipment. It was rescheduled for Thursday. This had been our first visit for Myles to see this pediatrician in the office. He was quite surprised that he is doing so well for a premature baby. His lungs and heart both sound excellent. His muscles are similar to a full term baby. It’s just remarkable! Then to hear the doctor reassure me that we are doing everything right for him makes me so happy!

He is starting to stay awake more and more after feedings. I love when he just looks up at me. It’s the best feeling ever just to see the recognition in his eyes. Typically he just sits here and cuddles with me. He also does really well when I lay him in his crib so I can get some quality time with the other girls. I know a lot of people wonder how you can get quality time with each child when you have a large family. But I can tell you that it is possible!

So of course I can’t have an update post without sharing pictures of the little man! I have to say that I’m completely in love with him.
