I dread the fact that my girls want to use the computer and the internet. Not just because I don’t want to share! But because there are so many sites out there that aren’t appropriate for them. I like to find sites that are safe and fun. I also want to find sites that are educational. If they are going to spend time on the computer, why not make it a learning experience? Some sites are so fun they don’t even know that they are learning! It is also hard to find something that is age appropriate for a preschooler. Most online games are more focused for kindergartners and up.Ganz-creators behind the Webkinz Virtual World have created a new line just for kids 3 to 6 years old. The Webkinz Jr. plush pets come to life in a new and educational website. Children will gain access to the virtual world with every toy purchase. They will learn to care for their pet, play with their pet and earn coins to purchase new items for their pet. There is a login area for parents to set each child’s skill levels and to manage the account. The deluxe membership is available for an additional price. With the deluxe membership you will receive detailed reports about child’s progress as well as more fun and games! The Webkinz Jr website received an award from Children’s Technology Review for Excellence in Design.

I found that Webkinz Jr. was very age appropriate for Sydnee who is nearly 4. I can also change the skill levels as she progresses to keep it challenging. This will keep her from getting bored. She was struggling with colors but Webkinz Jr. actually made it fun for her. I was able to spend one on one time with her and teach her in a different way. Somehow interacting with the computer and her bunny really made the colors stick in her mind! I am able to use computer time as an incentive for behavior and chore rewards. She has so much fun that she really tries. She enjoys taking care of her pet and buying her pet things. The different games are a lot of fun. Her favorite place to take her pet is to the park. Watching it giggle and laugh as it plays on the toys always turns her to giggles. She also likes to play Hide and Seek with her pet. After she is done with the park she goes to the bakery to feed her pet. The bakery even has games for her to learn even more! The best part is when she is done playing with her pet online, she is able to take her bunny everywhere with her! It is so incredibly soft and cuddly.

I would love the options of having some reports available to those not paying for the deluxe membership. It is great to see how your child is progressing and that would be an excellent option. As a parent, I would be more apt to purchase the deluxe membership if it were a bit more affordable. $15 for 3 months is not a bad price but not affordable to all. I would definitely consider paying $20-25 for 6 months though.
