29 Weeks and Getting Ready!

Yes I officially have 10 weeks left! I just have to get through the next 7 weeks first! I am so not even close to being ready in any way for this little boy. This week has started out with a BANG! Last night I started cramping a little bit. I took a bath and afterwards I noticed I was spotting.  It was pretty mild so I laid down and rested. Since I was spotting a month ago, my doctor had told me to just rest for 48 hours when spotting. Knowing I had an appointment, I didn’t freak out. This morning I was awakened at 3 am with horrible back pain. The cramping was still there but still mild as long as I was off my feet. The more I did, the worse the pain got. So I just waited patiently for my appointment.

At my appointment, I gained 7 lbs the last 4 weeks. Not sure what my blood pressure was because we were chatting. But it’s been decent lately and well within normal range. So makes me feel a lot better. He decided to do the Fetal Fibronectin (fFn) test. With Sydnee and Kambree, I started this test about 24-25 weeks and had it every 2 weeks until I was good to go. So making it to 29 weeks is a blessing! The fFn test can tell you a lot and it can tell you nothing. If it comes back negative, I have a very low chance of not going into labor in the next 2 weeks. If it is positive, then it doesn’t really mean anything. Either way we hope for the negative! He also decided to start the procardia to help with the contractions. After taking 1 pill, I noticed a HUGE difference in the pain already! I was on procardia with my previous two pregnancies as well. It’s not Pre-Term Labor but Pre-Term Contractions.

My cervix has never started to dilate until I’m in labor. With Kam, I was in labor & delivery at 34 weeks with cervical change but the medications and strict bedrest helped. Until today, I just assumed you got medications to stop contractions. But apparently it’s not a necessity until your cervix changes. Since my cervix is closed, I am sure my doctor wants to avoid any dilation. I also had my platelets checked again since they were low before. If I hear any news, I will be sure to update!

So now I’m off to rest. Next week i’ll be talking about what to pack in the hospital bag!

  1. Wow, I am a nurse and never heard of procardia being used for contractions. You learn something new everyday. I had cramps all through my pregnancies…I feel you. I had sciatica with my 2nd. YOUWCH! wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Hang in there!

  2. Carole, I never heard of it before I was pregnant with my 3 year old. But it isn’t as hard on you as the TERB and other one. I eventually had to take TERB before but my dr first likes to use Procardia when we can. It helps a lot!
