United Healthcare Student Resources Promotes Student Health Plan

At the beginning of the school year, I receive a packet with an “Accident” insurance plan for my students. I don’t purchase this plan because I have been blessed to have insurance for my family. But millions of other children aren’t that lucky. They fall through the cracks. Their family income is too much for state assisted insurance but not enough to purchase a private health plan. A lot of companies can not provide insurance to their employees and their families. The insurance plan that schools offer are great for those families that are in the middle. But these families need more!

United Healthcare Student Resources (UHCSR)  is a division of United Healthcare Insurance Company that is dedicated to student insurance programs. UHCSR only focuses on students and has a better understanding of the unique needs of this age group. UHCSR offers the HIPAA-compliant student health plans. The health plan offers coverage for injury AND sickness for a full year! The Health Plan is available to K12 students from ages 5 – 18 (ages 4-18 in Texas).

Many public and private school districts throughout the US participate with UHCSR by offering this plan. It is only available through the school districts participating. It is nationally available through schools that belong to the Association of Christian Schools International. UHCSR has challenged national trends by INCREASING benefits while KEEPING the premium at 2008 levels. It is designed to be affordable at $588 per policy year or $98 every two months. Parents can enroll their student at any point in the school year. Be sure to check out the UHCSR health plan to see if your school district is covered!

Full plan details and easy online enrollment are available at their site:

  • Click on Plans & Pricing tab and enter school district name (or just a few letters) to find and select the child’s school.
  • Click View Plan Materials to see the plan brochure, and review the Student Health Plan Coverage page regarding Student Injury and Sickness Benefits.
  • When ready to enroll, click the Enroll Now button on the Plans & Pricing tab (or from the Home page). Complete some information about the child, select the Injury and Sickness plan, create an account, and make a payment by credit card or e-check.

The K12 Health Plan is an affordable alternative for families who are uninsured and those who have high deductibles through employers. If parents have to pay a high deductible, the K12 Health Plan can reiumburse them for their children’s eligible medical expenses.
