I had my first prenatal appointment today! I was excited but equally nervous.  I will be 11 weeks tomorrow. Typically I have been to the dr by now because I am considered high risk. But after 2 full term babies, we are confident that my cervix will hold up once again! So I decided as long as everything was going fine, I would go in about 10 weeks which is when he normally sees his patients for the first time.

The problem.

In 2007, I started having symptoms of a stroke. I was taken to the ER where the drs wanted to order some tests but first checked the baby. I was 11 weeks. After several doctors tried with doppler and ultrasound machines, I was told that I had miscarried. There was no heartbeat.

So this is why I was so nervous. I like to leave the girls at home at my first appointment to make sure everything is 100%. But no sitters were found so we took the girls along this time. After signing my life away with the questions and forms to sign, I had the dreaded pap. I am used to these because I have had one every few months for the past 5 years. Lucky me right?

Then we got to the good stuff! The gel was warmed and the doppler was set. But nothing. My oh so wonderful doctor continued to search and still look calm. Then he decided to take us across the hall to the ultrasound machine! At first I couldn’t see the heartbeat so I was nervous. But then we realized the problem!

This little one was moving so much from the Pumpkin Spice Latte I had at Starbucks, it was difficult to get the heartbeat. But we finally got it! 163 beats per minute! If the Old Wives Tale is true, this is another girl! Which is perfectly fine with me!
