With the prices of groceries going up, saving money at the register is important. The average American consumes up to seven 12 oz cans of soda a day! That is about 4 cases a week. So let’s do the math. 1 case costs about $5 so the average American is spending about $20 on soda a week. That is over $1000 a year and more if you drink more!

Now that we figured out the cost, what about the cost to our environment? If 50% of all plastic bottles and soda cans and boxes were recycled that still leaves 50% filling our landfills. What about the energy that goes into these products? The energy required to make water bottles in the US only, is equivalent to 17 million barrels of oil (Container Recycling Institute, 2002). That is .63 cents a liter! The average liter of soda is about $1.89 around here. So that saves me $1. 26 PER liter! I’m no longer throwing away cans of soda or the boxes it comes in.

My family loved the Soda Stream. My girls beg for it! I am one of those mean moms that don’t let them drink soda a lot. I have found that with a little bit of bribery, I can get them to eat healthier for a small glass of soda though! The soda is pretty good. It tastes similar to Shasta. I do think after the initial cost, it is well worth it. It is also sleek and compact so it fits nicely on my small counter! I didn’t care for the water at all. My overall experience was absolutely wonderful! I think Sydnee agrees in the video!
